The Danish Representative Office (DRO) in Ramallah is seeking to recruit a Senior Consular and Administrative Officer. The Consular and Administrative Section handles visa applications for Denmark and assists Danish citizens living or travelling in Palestine. The Consular and Administrative Section works closely with the Visa and Passport Office in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen, the Danish Immigration Services, the Danish Embassy in Tel Aviv and relevant Palestinian authorities. You must be willing to represent and work on behalf of Denmark. In addition to the consular functions, other administrative tasks constitute important parts of the job. However, you are expected to show the flexibility required for an optimal handling of the entire portfolio of the Representation and thus be ready to contribute to handling tasks outside your own portfolio.

Main tasks and responsibilities as Senior Consular Officer:

  • Oversee staff in the consular section; including coaching and guiding to ensure that relevant rules and procedures are adhered to.
  • Manage, control and keep oversight of the visa handling process, including approval of cases in the relevant application systems.
  • Carry out relevant visa handling tasks (interviewing verifying documents etc.)
  • Communicate with applicants, Danish references, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Danish Immigration services as well as relevant Palestinian authorities.
  • Carry out control visits to the Schengen Office in Gaza. 
  • Assist Danish citizens abroad and perform all other consular cases.
  • Participate in Schengen meetings in Jerusalem. 
  • Administrative and secretarial tasks e.g. drafting note verbal, and archiving.
  • Fulfil relevant back-up functions whenever needed.
  • The job description will be adjusted upon the need of the office.

Required qualifications:

  • Experience with visa handling will be considered an advantage.
  • Experience with administrative tasks.
  • Ability to understand and apply the comprehensive legal framework on visa handling in a logical and consistent manner.
  • Team player.
  • Flexible and service minded.
  • Positive and proactive approach to new challenges.
  • Good computer skills. 
  • Fluent in spoken as well as written English. Knowledge of Arabic and Danish a considerable advantage.

Working environment:

The Danish Representative Office has four expat staff and eleven local staff. We believe in teamwork, a flexible approach and open communication.

Employment conditions:

This is a permanent position with a three months trial period starting 1 December 2018 or earlier possible on a local contract based on the relevant binding labour rules in Palestine.

Working hours are 24 hours weekly, eight hours from Tuesday – Thursday with possible adjustment based on the need of the Representation. Rrecruitment is dependent on achieving the relevant security clearance from the Danish authorities. Salary will be based on experience and background.
