16 days activism against gender-based violence

The Danish Representative Office is a part the campaign here in Palestine.


Denmark, as a part of the European Gender Technical Working Group in Palestine (EU-GTWG), is supporting the global campaign “16 Days Activism against gender-based violence”, which run from 25th of November to 10th of December.
The EU-GTWG are screening short films in 19 refugee camps around the West Bank and in Gaza.
All of the films have a focus on women’s rights and violence against women. The screening is followed by a debate at the Women's Centres and Youth Centres.
The Palestinian partner of this event is Shashat Women Cinema.

As a part of the global campaign the Head of Mission, Anders Tang Friborg, held a speech at the opening of the, Danida supported, art exhibition “Violence against women under occupation” at Mahmoud Darwish Museum, Ramallah.

Did you that:

  • Out of 39.6% of women experienced domestic violence in Gaza
  • In 2015, the three shelters in Bethlehem, Jericho and Nablus received a total number of 115 abused women whose ages range between 14 to 55 years old.
  • On 950 cases in 2015 regarding domestic violence, 18% are victims of sexual abuse, 12% of rape, 15% of abandonment and 2% of witnessing of violence.
