Frequently asked questions about Schengen visa.

If I want to visit one of the countries in the Schengen region, at which Consulate / Representative Office do I apply for a visa?

You must apply at the Consulate/Representative Office of the country you are intending to visit. If you are planning to visit several countries, you need to apply at the Consulate/Representative office of the country where you intend to stay longest. If the period of stay is equal, then you have to apply at the Consulate/ Representative Office of the country of first entry.

Can I just show up at the Danish Representative Office in Ramallah and apply for a visa right away?

NO. Applications are done online nowadays. Thereafter the printed application form and other mandatory documents must be submitted at the VFS Visa Application Center, either in Ramallah or Gaza.

Do I have to apply personally?

Applications must be submitted in person at the VFS Visa Application Center.

Can my passport be collected by someone else?

A passport can be collected either by the applicant himself or by a representative holding a power of attorney.

Can I live in Denmark having a Schengen visa?

NO. A short term (=Schengen) visa enables you to stay in Denmark for the period of its validity only. It does not allow you to take up employment or set up a business, trade or profession.

Do I need to have a medical insurance?

YES. A medical insurance is needed in order to apply for a visa.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The travel insurance must cover COVID19-related illnesses.

You must present a travel insurance covering all Schengen countries for the duration of the visa with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 for unforeseen expenditures. These include urgent medical treatment or other emergencies and the transportation cost to return home in case of a serious illness. 

The following insurance companies in Palestine are recognised by the EU:

  • Ahliea Insurance Group – AIG
  • Al-Takaful Palestinian Insurance Co.
  • Global United Insurance Company
  • Trust International Insurance Company – Palestine
  • National Insurance Company – NIC
  • Al Mashreq Insurance Company
  • Tamkeen Insurance 

Exemptions: Some occupational groups may be exempt from the insurance requirement if they already hold the appropriate insurance in connection with their work. Others exempted from the medical insurance requirement are those who:

  • Possess a diplomatic passport
  • Apply for an airport transit visa
  • Are relatives of an EU/Swiss citizen, i.e. his/her husband or wife, registered partner, common law spouse, children under 21 years of age, older children who are financially dependent on their parents, parents who are financially dependent on their children in the Schengen country of destination.

Your must bring your insurance certificate with you during your travel. Lack hereof can lead to rejection at the Danish border.

If my visa application is refused, should I wait for some time before applying for a visa again?

NO. However, it is recommended that you reapply only if you think that the circumstances that could have caused the refusal have changed.
