Promoting Economic Development

Denmark’s development assistance aims to promote equal economic opportunities through stimulation of economic development, growth and livelihoods.

The economic situation in the West Bank and Gaza is critical. Economic stagnation, fiscal fragility and mass unemployment make Palestine highly reliant on donor support.

According to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, political instability and Israeli imposed restrictions on access and movement are the main obstacles for a viable Palestinian economy.

Particularly in Gaza, Denmark has long had a strong focus on economic recovery and growth especially due to the recurrent surges in violence.
Identification of activities for Danish assistance is on-going and aligned with the Palestinian Authority’s National Policy Agenda 2017-2022 on promoting economic growth with a focus on:

  • Increasing investments that create employment opportunities
  • Creating a balanced economic development environment
  • Improving competitiveness
  • Expanding entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives among women and youth.
